Lawyers for Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho, say they are skeptical about the withdrawal of treason charges levelled against their client.

According to one of his lawyers, Nelson Dafeamepkor, the decision to drop charges could also mean that the state could be preparing to initiate new charges against Mr Anyidoho.

The Deputy NDC General Secretary was arrested and charged by the Police with high treason over comments made against President Akufo-Addo.

His declaration followed the ratification of the military agreement between the Government of Ghana and that of the United States.

Yesterday (August 20), the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Gloria Akuffo  informed the Ghana Police Service that the state is no longer interested in the case.

In an interview with host Ibrahim Kwarteng on GBC’s News and Current Affairs Programme, ‘Behind the News’, Mr Dafeamepkor denied any assertion the State was compromised, noting that the defence team remains circumspect in the matter.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Media Foundation for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah believes the decision taken by the State to drop the charge of treason against Mr Anyidoho, should not in any way, prepare the grounds for others to make reckless and irresponsible statements.

Mr Anyidoho (in black) was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 after he predicted that a civil revolt may unseat President Akufo-Addo.
