The Greater Accra Regional Branch of the Public Service Workers’ Union, PSWU has called on government and all relevant stakeholders to fast track and conclude negotiations on the Minimum Wage by the 28th of next month.
Government should as well ensure the determination of realistic and enhanced increment in the Minimum Wage and Base Pay relative to previous trends.
A statement jointly signed by the Branch Chairman Boakye Yiadom and Acting Branch Secretary Dr Ebo Crentsil further called for the payment of concluded rates for the Minimum Wage effective 1st January this year in addition to all arrears due to workers.
According to the statement, the PSWU arrived at the resolution following the earlier unacknowledged one by the National Executive Council which called for an immediate constitution of the Tripartite Committee and the Public Service Joint Negotiating Committee to deal with the determination of the Minimum Wage and Base Pay for the fiscal year.
The decision by the Union to call on government is further informed by the subsequent composition of the Tripartite Committee to commence negotiations on the Minimum Wage which ended inconclusively as well as the prevailing hardships due to the continuous increases in the cost of living for workers and the impending increases in taxes through the introduction of additional levies.
The statement called for expedited action on the concerns raised to help maintain the relatively peaceful industrial atmosphere existing in the country.
