A 20-year-old woman, Ellian Zumeseh, has been arrested and detained by the Sunyani Municipal Police Command for allegedly killing her three-month-old male twin babies by dumping them into a borehole.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, saying the suspect was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday at Zongo Abetifi, a suburb in Sunyani.

He said a neighbour volunteered information and assisted the Police at about 0205 hours to arrest Zumeseh who committed the crime around 0130 hours within their house.

The Police proceeded to the scene and saw the twins floating on the well, ASP Oppong said and added after the bodies had been retrieved and carefully inspected “no marks of violence were seen on them”.

ASP Oppong, however, said some whitish foam substance was flowing from their noses and the bodies were conveyed to the Sunyani Regional Hospital emergency ward where the Medical Officer on duty pronounced them dead on arrival.

The bodies have been deposited at the Hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy while Zumeseh remained in Police custody assisting in investigation.
