Two persons who tested positive for covid-19 in Tamale have gone into hiding. The two are part of something cases recorded last week.

According to the health directorate, the two persons only picked calls from the health directorate once, and warned personnel never to call their lines again.

The Northern Regional Director of Health, Dr. John Eleeza who confirmed the news to GBC in Tamale, said the two persons also gave wrong addresses and cannot be traced for treatment. He attributed the development to stigmatization of covid-19 patients and their families.

“The addresses they gave are not reliable, and this is the effect stigma is beginning to have on the fight, because once people feel stigmatized now, they are not willing to see the health people in their environment because they don’t want their neighbors to know, that they have the case. That is going to worsen the case as far as community spread is concerned,” he lamented.

He warned that, community spread of the disease could get worse unless residents adhere strictly to protocols.

The Northern region has recorded a total of 34 Covid-19 cases.
