Residents of Kronkromase, near Atasomanso in the Kumasi Metropolis, were gripped by tragedy on Monday, April 6, 2026, following the discovery of the lifeless body of a newborn infant at a local cemetery.

According to eyewitness reports, the baby girl was found wrapped in a small bundle of cloth and left at the Kronkromase Cemetery.

The Assembly Member for the Atasomanso Electoral Area, Abdul Samid (popularly known as Opele), together with some residents, reported the incident to the Kronkromase Police Station shortly after the discovery.

While initial conflicting reports suggested an abandoned infant had been found alive and crying, officials later confirmed that the baby girl was dead before discovered by residents in the early hours.

Meanwhile, Officers from the Kronkromase Police Station have since launched an investigation to identify the mother or any individuals responsible for the abandonment.

The body was collected and deposited at a nearby morgue for further investigation and autopsy.

Local authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the mother to report to the nearest police station.

Mr. Samid described the act as “unacceptable” and expressed deep concern for the welfare of the community.
