U/East Regional Minister visits Tongraan for blessings and support

The Upper East Regional Minister Paulina Abayage has paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Tongp Tongraan Kugbilsong Nalebtang.

The Minister was at the Tongraan’s Palace to pay homage, ask for his blessings and support as her mission is to develop the Region.

She indicated that, as a daughter of the land, she cannot do anything without first consulting her custodians.

The Tongraan in his welcome address was grateful for her visit saying that as a father, he is ever ready, when the Minister knocks at his door for council.

The Tongraan indicated that so far, he has appreciated the Minister’s efforts of the few months upon assuming into office, adding that, it looks promising that she is up to the task because she is somebody who carries assigned task to full accomplishment. The Tongraan assured the Minister of his full support in her development drive.

The Minister in her response indicated that, President Nana Addo is really poised to develop the country and for that matter, the Upper East Region, with his numerous pro-poor social interventions programmes.

Therefore with the support of the Tongraan, she will liaise strongly with the relevant department to make sure, the region receives her fair share for development.

The Tongraan in his address cited certain key areas of concern such as the road network in the Talensi District as not being the best and for that matter, the Municpality as a whole, the only Hospital in Tongo which was upgraded but has not yet seen any improvement and a forestation project ongoing in the Talensi District and the development of the Tenzuik Shrine to improve tourism attraction for the Minister’s attention.

Tongraan Kubilsong-Nalebtang stated further that, mining in his view, should be done on a large scale, with deep shaft mining in order to create Jobs for the youth and also maintain the environment which is already ongoing in the District.

For her part, the Minister said that, she will link up with the Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) of Ghana Health to ensure that the Tongo Hospital is givem some level of improvement.

She stated that, she is aware that Urban roads are given the task of re-graveling and re-shaping and Tongo is no exception.

Paulina Abayage disclosed that, plans are far advance by the Ghana High Authority to open up the Eastern corridor road from Pwalugu through Tongo to Nangodi, to prevent Haulage tracks from plying through Municipality.

The Minister stated that, she has written for street lights for all the District capitals. She hinted that, the construction of the Multipurpose Dam at Pwalugu is seriously under consideration at the office of the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.

The minster added that, government is accessing an amount of 7 million dollars Sino-Hydro Loan Facility for that purpose.

She emphasized that, Nana Addo has been lamenting that; under no circumstances should a life be lost along the White Volta basin as a result any flooding.

Therefore, everything possible must be done to construct the Dam to prevent further lost lives and property.
