The Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) Paul Woomah has commended mother clubs, volunteers and staff in the Region for their overwhelming support during the year 2020.

He said they worked around the clock with their collaborating partners and stakeholders during the year, under trying conditions to ensure that the lives of the suffering masses were saved and that God was so helpful to the societies that volunteer because no life was lost. Mr Woomah stated that the region was confronted with the COVID-19 pandemic situation like any other Ghanaian but for God’s intervention, the situation was under control.

This came to light in an interview with GBC URA Radio, in a New Year ‘thank you message’. Mr. Woomah disclosed that a WASH project is to be undertaken and technical assessment has been carried out in six districts namely; Nabdam, Bongo, Talensi, Pusiga Kassena Nankana and Binduri for an intervention in the area of water with health facilities.

He added that the WASH project will run alongside the traditional newborn and maternal health projects and hoped that volunteers will attach the same support they gave during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Woomah indicated that there are plans to put in proposals to sources funding from well-meaning citizens and philanthropies to support disaster-stricken victims by constructing Low-Cost housing. This he said, will be done together with stakeholders that matter in society and have the poorest of the poor at heart.

According to him, a lot of such victims have been identified in the 2019/2020 disaster assessment. He however commended the media for their collaboration.
