More solutions to Ghana’s unemployment numbers

By Jacob Aggrey

About 50 unemployed youth are to receive cars to be used for commercial transport while 100 others are expected to be gainfully employed through private partnership. These are geared toward supporting the government’s efforts towards reducing the rate of graduate unemployment in the country.

Beneficiaries of the partnership will be trained in vocational skills such as Hair Dressing, Electrical Technicians, Carpenters, and assisted with start-up capital to set up their businesses on work and pay terms. At the ceremony in Accra to launch the partnership, the General Manager of Amber Consult, Dr Kwaku Kantanka explained the unique approach being taken to solve the unemployment situation.

“The government is rolling out a policy which I know that indeed, what they intend to do is they are going to give money to people who are not business ready but we are not saying that indeed be in business already before we can give finance, we want to establish you once you have the skill.”

A Risk Management Consultant Dr. Victor Abbey asked the government to restructure its planning procedure to reflect the current situation in terms of the country’s workforce.

“The world is longer as it was, we have to think outside the box to create less difficulties. For us to create an environment to empower our youth and the whole people of Ghana. We all have to take a second look at the way we plan or organize or promote entrepreneurship in this country because it is the way to go”.
