UNESCO launches 'Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3) Programme in Ghana

Over 20 Ministers of Education and Health in Africa will be converging in Accra on Wednesday, January 30 to officially launch a programme themed, “Our Right, Our Lives, Our Future, (O3)” at Alisa hotel.

The Programme will support delivery of good comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in Ghana and five other countries on the continent.

The Programme will also commit to scale up comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) as well as youth friendly sexual and reproductive health rights services for adolescents and young people.

Speaking on GBC’s Uniiq Breakfast Drive, Education Specialist with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) office in Accra, Mr. Prosper Nyavor, explained that, the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) targets young people to take control of lives and make informed choices as far as their sexuality is concern and how it can affect them throughout their lifetime.

He hinted that the programme has been running on a small scale with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), adding that, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has developed a guide line about how Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) should be taught in Ghana

He said the O3 Programmed is actually a support from the Swedish government to scale up good things that are happening in the country and will be attended by the Director General of UNESCO from Paris.

“The issue of Comprehensive Sexuality Education is about equipping children with the right information, knowledge, attitude and skills to be able to control of their lives to achieve their full potentials in life,” he concluded.
