An Accra High Court has granted an application from the second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Pandit Asiama for the release of his passport to enable him to travel.

Mr Asiama, the third accused person in the trial of defunct uniBank together with others had their passports ceased by the court as part of their bail conditions.

An application moved by Simon Animley, his lawyer, said even though they are concerned about the issue of coronavirus, it has become necessary for him to travel.

A Senior State Attorney, Hilda Craig did not oppose the application, but said the applicant must surrender his passport immediately he returns and quarantine himself.

The court presided over by Justice Bright Mensah, ordered the court registrar to release the passport to the applicant.

The court further directed the applicant to surrender his passport to the registrar as soon as he returns and notify the Attorney General’s department.

Ms Hilda Craig also advised Dr Asiama to self – quarantine when he returns from Nigeria owning to the deadly Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The substantive case returns to court on the 24th of next month.
