The University of Media Arts and Communication-Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ) celebrated the formal inauguration of the UniMAC-IJ Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Club on Friday, October 20, 2023. The event took place at the University’s North Dzorwulu campus-Auditorium.

Isaac Acheampong, the Media Literacy Project Lead at Mobile Web Ghana, represented Madam Florence Toffa, the founder of Mobile Web Ghana, and delivered a solidarity remark during the ceremony. Acheampong expressed his pleasure in supporting media literacy, a cause that is not only important to him personally but also aligns with the mission of Mobile Web Ghana.

“It’s a pleasure to be here today representing Madam Florence Toffa, the founder of Mobile Web Ghana. I’ve been entrusted with this role because I serve as the Media Literacy Project Lead at Mobile Web Ghana,” Acheampong said.

Mobile Web Ghana, in collaboration with the US Embassy in Ghana, has been providing media literacy training to students from 5-star universities, including UniMAC-IJ. Acheampong acknowledged the growth and dedication of the club’s executives and members who have undergone the training.

“We’ve seen their growth, dedication, and the transformation that comes from acquiring media literacy skills. It’s heartening to witness how they have taken the next step to educate their peers and advocate for media literacy,” Acheampong added.

Expressing solidarity with the UniMAC Media and Information Literacy Club, Acheampong stated, “Today, on behalf of Mobile Web Ghana, I’m deeply honored to extend our heartfelt solidarity to the UNIMAC Media and Information Literacy Club and all its members. As an organization, we stand with you in your mission to promote media literacy. We are here to continue this journey with you, to provide guidance, and our utmost dedication.”

The UniMAC Media and Information Literacy Club aims to empower youth with essential media literacy skills, fostering critical thinking and responsible media consumption.
