The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi Esq., has issued a strong warning to individuals and businesses engaging in gold trading without a valid Gold Board licence. He says such activities are now considered criminal under Ghana’s Gold Board Act, Act 1140.

Speaking to the media in Accra, Mr. Gyamfi made it clear that anyone who buys or trades gold without proper authorisation from the Ghana Gold Board will be prosecuted. Offenders face heavy fines and jail terms as outlined in Section 63 of the law.

“If you are not licenced by the Ghana Gold Board, you are committing a crime if you buy gold or engage in any form of gold trading,” he stressed.

He explained that the new law has cancelled all licences previously issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for gold trading. This means that anyone operating with an old licence is now breaking the law.

Mr. Gyamfi urged all players in the gold sector to regularise their operations with the Gold Board to avoid facing the full force of the law.
