President Akufo-Addo is expected to cut the sod for the construction of the Pwalugu Dam in the Upper East Region next month (November 2019) to check the effect of the perennial spillage of the Bagre Dam.

Construction of the Pwalugu Dam, which is projected to cost $750 million is the largest investment any government has ever injected into infrastructure expansion in the northern sector since independence.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who announced this at the 43rd Kobine Festival of the Chiefs and People of Lawra, said the Pwalugu Dam would also serve as a source of electricity and help to improve irrigation farming in local communities in the area.

Spillage of the Dam by Burkinabe Authorities over the years has caused substantial destruction to farmlands in several local communities.

In February this year, President Akufo-Addo announced to Parliament, short term measures to contain the situation.
