A military detachment has destroyed mining equipment belonging to some illegal miners in Wuru at Sanyiga-Kasena-Gavara-Kara, SKGK a Community Resource Management Area, CREMA, in the Kassena West District, of the Upper East Region.

This follows a report by the Regional Wildlife office to draw attention to ongoing illegal mining activities in SKGK CREMA area.

The military also managed to flush out the illegal miners in the Community.

Report however said the military is yet to move into Pido and Kayoro areas within the same mining enclave.

The Wildlife Manager responsible for the entire Northern part of the country, Joseph Binlinla, in statement said he is yet to find out why the military left those two communities out.

He said after consultation with the military, he is hopeful they will act to halt mining activities within the entire area, so that the ecological integrity of that portion of the Corridor can be maintained.
