Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has charged religious bodies to use their platforms to promote national peace and unity. He said Ghana cannot afford to lose these. Vice President Bawumia said Covid 19 has brought devastating socio-economic effects to the world. He said this has informed government’s initiatives to minimize the effect of Covid 19 on Ghanaians. He urged everyone to continue to stand firm in these trying times.

The Vice President made these remarks at the 30th Anniversary in the Ministry of the District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Adabraka Official Town, Rev. Kwadwo Owusu Sarpong.

Rev. Kwadwo Owusu Sarpong was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1991, and has served in several capacities in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. Rev. Owusu Sarpong has been a Presbytery Chairman and a Synod Clerk for the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. He also acted as the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana from June to July 2015. Rev. Owusu Sarpong earlier worked at the Department of Social Welfare and the Ghana Education Service.

Vice President Bawumia in a brief remark said the favour of God has indeed manifested in the life of Rev. Kwadwo Owusu Sarpong. He said his life has been a living testimony despite all the challenges encountered.

The Vice President lauded the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for its immense contribution to society. He appealed to religious bodies to support the government and use their pulpits to preach peace.

‘’Without doubt, the government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of developing our nation. I wish to encourage the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the entire Christian Community to continue partnering with the government in its developmental efforts. I wish to urge leadership of all religious bodies to use the pulpit for the patronage of peace to stress the oneness and peace the nation continues to enjoy despite our challenges. Christians owe it as a duty to uplift the sense of responsibility in the country as well as help fight pockets of corruption and impunity’’.

In his sermon which focused on Celebrating the Favour of the Lord, Rev. Kwadwo Owusu Sarpong expressed gratitude to God for His favour upon his life. Sharing his life experiences especially with education, Rev. Owusu Sarpong said but, for the benevolence of an individual, he would not have completed his education. He therefore lauded President Akufo-Addo for the Free SHS initiative, which has given the opportunity to many to be educated. He appealed to the government to establish a department to cater for the aged.

‘’ At a time when I was supposed to be in SHS, yet for lack of support, I was denied. That is why for me, I will always applaud the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government for the Free SHS Policy. My passionate appeal for your government is to establish a gerontology department at every health facility, to help take care of the aged to avoid delay’’.

Vice President Bawumia was accompanied by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey among other dignitaries.
