In the spirit of Ramadan, a construction company, Ussuya Ghana Limited has presented 100 bags of maize to the Upper West Regional Hospital in Wa. The package, which is valued at a little over GH¢10,000.00 is to help the Hospital to feed patients on admission there.

In this report, GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo says that the move is also part of efforts to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Ussuya Ghana Ltd is one of the leading construction firms in the country, but in 2020, it decided to diversify by going into farming in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issah (DBI) District.

The diversification led to the cultivation of several hundred acres of maize in DBI. A representative of Ussuya Ghana Limited, Rafiq Salam who made the donation on behalf of the company talked about the motivation for the gesture.

He stated:We are in the month of Ramadam which doubles as a month of sharing and so we deemed it as part of our corporate social responsibility to also donate some items to some institutions and individuals in the Upper West Region. We are starting with the Regional Hospital but other donations will be given to the Upper West Regional Chief Imam, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission and other vulnerable groups in the Upper West Region.”

“This is not the first time Ussuya Ghana Ltd is donating to the people of the Upper West Region. You remember when COVID-19 started, the first donation was the donation of PPEs, hand sanitizers and a whole lot of things valued at 120 thousand Ghana Cedis, which was about 1.2 billion ‘old’ Cedis,” Mr. Salam indicated.

The Director of the Upper West Regional Hospital, Dr. Robert Amesiya who took delivery of the maize was very thankful to the donor, saying on behalf of the management and staff of the Upper West Regional Hospital, I want to say a big thank you to Ussuya Ghana Limited for remembering us once again”.

He promised that the donation will be utilized for the intended purpose, noting that, the Hospital still receives COVID patients and that the donation will be used to feed them.

Dr Amesiya equally entreated others to emulate the example of Ussuya Ghana Ltd.
