VEEP cuts short Greater Accra Regional tour to commiserate with NER flood victims

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has cut short his 4-day campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region to commiserate with victims of devastating floods that hit three communities in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region (NER).

After a tour of the affected communities, the Vice President on behalf of Government donated food and non-food relief items as well as cash of 100 thousand cedis to the more than one thousand affected flood victims.

Four villages Gaagbini, Dimia, Tinkaya and Banawa communities were submerged in flood waters following massive torrential rains that forced the banks of Guabuliga and Diani dams to break.

Thousands of acres of farmlands affected ,with livestock being carried away by the floods.

According to the North East Regional Directorate of NADMO, 80 households, 938 people have been affected and 58 houses totally collapsed.

It has been confirmed by officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) that a three-year  old child has died.

Items presented include several bags of maize, rice, sugar, milk, mattresses, mosquito coils, cooking oil and 100 thousand Ghana cedis.

Vice President Dr. Bawumia assured the flood victims that government through NADMO is working around the clock to bring life back to normalcy.

Displaced persons in the affected communities are currently putting up in temporary structures including schools and offices of the West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly.

The flood waters in most of the communities have started receding.
