Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has assured inhabitants of Old Fadama and its environs that they will not be evicted but rather given the basic necessities that will improve their living conditions.

Addressing a gathering at Old Fadama and traders at the Agbogbloshie market, the Vice President said every Ghanaian deserves the best and development will be distributed evenly across the country.

The Old Fadama and Agbogbloshie markets went agog when Vice President Bawumia and some government officials toured the usually busy area.

This is the first time a sitting Vice President has paid a working visit to area which has seen a tremendous growth in population from 20,000 in the 1980’s to 120,000.

Vice President Bawumia made a whistle stop at the scrap dealers market before walking through the streets of Agbogbloshie to the Community Center at Old Fadama.

At the Center, Vice President Bawumia, addressing the leadership and people of the area, said plans had begun to give a face-lift to the community center which was razed down by fire some months ago.

He also noted that a hospital including basic social amenities will be constructed to make life easier for them.

He stressed that government had not intention of ejecting them from the area but rather bringing development.

A beneficiary of the FSHS Nafisa Ziblim who has also defied the odds in the area to educate herself had a message for government.

The Vice President and his entourage’s next stop was at the Konkonba Yam market.

Traders in the area left their wares amid singing and dancing, lined up on the streets to catch a glimpse of the Vice President.

Clad in NPP colors, some party faithful also thronged the market to give their support.

The Vice President said government cannot downplay the important role traders play in the development of the economy, assuring the traders that more development will be seen.

He stressed that the reconstruction of the main Agbogbloshie road attests to the fact that government is addressing their concerns

From there, the Vice President stormed the Plantain Market. The Queenmother of the market had a message for the government.

Some market women who spoke to Radio Ghana praised the government for the numerous initiatives that had brought relief to parents.

Other dignitaries who accompanied the Vice President included the Minister for Zongo Development, Dr. Mustapha Hamid, Water and Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah and the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Sammy Awuku.
