Veep Dr. Bawumia launches YEA Job Centre

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially launched The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Job Center and other two initiatives with a call on the private sector to partner government to create the needed jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.

The initiative which seeks to link job seekers with available vacancies is expected to create about 100 thousand jobs.

Vice President Dr. Bawumia also noted that although about 350 thousand jobs has been created for the youth through the various policies over the last two years, the unemployment rate in the country continues to be on the high side.

This he said this calls for more collaboration between the two sectors. He called on public especially the youth to take advantage of this initiative and register with the Job Center for sustainable jobs.

The three new programs, the Job Centre, the Artisan Directory and the Regional and District Flagship are all geared towards the creation of a common platform that will connect job seekers to employers in all fields within the public and private sectors across the country.

The Job Center will capture all formal and informal employers as well as graduate and non-graduate job seekers.

The Artisan directory which is targeted at those in the informal sector will include skills development that will build the capacity of artisans and craftsmen and train new ones in various crafts like carpentry, tiling, hairdressing and plumbing among others while the Regional and District Flagship is premised on the peculiar Agro-Business needs of the various districts across the country.

Vice President said it is a new dawn in curbing youth unemployment as the youth are the future of the better Ghana that all envisage.

He indicated that government has over the past 2 years embarked on a massive drive to build the capacity of the youth stressing that these initiatives will equip the youth with the needed skills for the job market.

He impressed on the the private sector to support government in this agenda to create sustainable jobs for the younger generation.

Vice President Bawumia announced that government has over the last two years created about 350 thousand jobs in Keys sectors of the economy.

He explains further how these initiatives will operate.

The Vice President commended the YEA for not relenting on their efforts and making this initiative a reality.

Some participants and job seekers at the forum had the opportunity to register on the Job Center Portal.

Meanwhile, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has waded into the debate about the recent increase in electricity tarriffs as announced by the PURC.

He said government taking into consideration the burden on businesses decided to agree on increase by 5. 6 percent.

He argues that this rate is far better than rates Ghanaians had to endure during the era of the previous government.
