Veep Dr Bawumia reassures of ‘Ghana Beyond Aid implementation

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated government’s resolve to move the country beyond aid.

To this end, Ghana seeks trade partnerships and not aid in order to realize this vision.

Speaking at the third session of the Ghana-UK Business Council Meeting at the Jubilee House in Accra, the  Vice President noted that since the inception of the council, both Ghana and the UK have reached a concensus on how to initiate policies that will benefit all.

The UK-Ghana Business Council (UKGBC) is a biannual high-level meeting between top UK and Ghana government Officials and Ministers.

The meeting is used as a vehicle to move forward a new strategic economic partnership between the UK and Ghana that focuses on increased trade and investment and additionally emphasizes the development of priority sectors of the Ghanaian economy that leads to job creation and sustained economic growth.

Vice President Bawumia noted that the meetings held since last year have  yielded positive results with both countries agreeing on key sectors of the economy that need further boost for mutual benefit.

He stressed that Ghana is seeking trade partnerships and not aid with the UK to propel growth in the economy.

Vice President Bawumia also outlined  some strategies that government has embarked on to nib corruption in the bud.

This he noted will include the strengthening and automation of systems to eliminate human influence among other things.

The Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State at the Department for International Development, Baroness Elizabeth Sugg who led the delegation pledged the UK’s support to Ghana’s vision of moving beyond aid.

She was hopeful that the outcome of the meeting will build on the existing work to create jobs and inclusive responsible growth.

The two countries will later on in the day sign some agreements.
