The vegetation cover of the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site is depleting at an alarming rate, posing a threat to the entire ecosystem in the enclave.
Over the years, there have been indiscriminate felling of, particularly mangrove on the Wetland by some residents in communities situated along the Anlo/Keta lagoons for fuelwood.
This has been of concern to organizations associated with biodiversity management and government agencies mandated to safeguard mangroves due to the ecosystems’ role in sustaining plant and animal species.
At the celebration of this year’s International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystems, also known as World Mangroves Day at Anyanui in the Anlo District of the Volta Region, calls were made for stakeholders to conserve the Anlo/Keta Lagoons’ fauna and flora.
