Venture Capital former boss, 5 others charged for causing financial loss

A Former Chief Executive of the Venture Capital Trust Fund, VCTF, Daniel Doku together with five others have been charged for causing financial loss to the state to the tune of about 42.8 million Ghana Cedis.

Also charged are Richard Lassey Agbenyefia, a former MP and a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Fund, Irene Anti-Mensah, who doubled as the Executive Assistant to Mr. Doku and also an Investment Officer of the Fund.

The rest are Kofi Sarpong, an Investment Officer, Frank Aboagye Mensah, a businessman and the husband of Irene, and Charity Opoku, also known as Charity Ameyaw, an Accountant With the Fund, have all been granted bail.

They have been variously charged with 86 counts of willfully causing financial loss to the state, abetment of crime, stealing, defrauding by false pretences and issuing of false cheques.

In court yesterday, when the matter was called the Director of Public Prosecution, Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa informed the court that, the state per the directives of the court has filed 91 documents.

She indicated however that, there are few more yet to be filed in a week’s time. Counsels for all accused persons were served with the bulky documents in open court.

The Court presided over by Justice Anthony Oppong adjourned the case to the 18th of next month, for a case Management Conference.
