Volta Chiefs tour border communities following deployment of security officials there

The Standing Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs led by the President of the National House of Chiefs and Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede has toured some border communities in the region, following the deployment of military personnel by government to those communities.

The Secretary to the Hornuta Traditional Council in the Ho West District, Robert Atutornu, reported to the Committee that military personnel deployed to the area started breaking into the homes of some residents they claimed were Togolese seeking to register.

He said the people live in fear as they were surrounded by security personnel.

Speaking to Ibrahim Kwarteng on news and current affairs programme, ‘Behind the News’ the District Chief Executive for Ho West, Ernest Appau denied the report, saying the arrest was rather done by Immigration Officers and not the military.

He said the military are not even allowed entry to registration centres.
