A ten-year-old girl hawking boiled eggs has been crushed to death by a speeding vehicle driven by a police officer who was allegedly chasing a tanker that was believed to have jumped a traffic light.

The incident occurred at Anaji on the Nkroful Junction-Apollo highway near Sekondi in the Western Region.

The vehicle of the policeman reportedly lost control in the process and smashed a little girl who was hawking, killing her instantly.

According to eyewitnesses, the policeman was overspending to catch up with the driver of another car for jumping traffic. The Western Regional MTTD Commander, Chief Superintendent Isaac Sorkpah who was at the accident scene says the case is being investigated.

Chief Superintendent Sorkpah said the policeman was in mufti driving a private car at the time of the accident and currently there’s no evidence that he was chasing another car.

Touching on different cedi denominations found on him, the MTTD Commander said, it is only the suspect police officer who will be able to speak to the matter.

As of now the policeman at the center of the accident is in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi whiles the body of the young girl has since been deposited at the morgue.
