W/R: Imam addresses Muslims via Facebook to announce beginning of Ramadan

The Western Regional Imam, Ustaz Ali Hassan has urged Muslims to adhere strictly to the President’s directives on public gatherings and social distancing even as they begin Ramadan Friday, April 24.

He said in view of the Covid-19 pandemic congregational prayers and other social gatherings held during the Ramadan period cannot be observed as such. Addressing Muslims via Facebook live, Ustaz Ali Hassan Ali said Muslims should rather pray in their various home.

Ramadan is the most awaited month among Muslims all over the world. Preparations to welcome this month start days before the month begins. The period generally brings Muslims together for various events which see large gatherings including long hours of prayers, teachings and the breaking of the fast.

This season however, such events cannot be held due to the outbreak of Covid-19 which requires social distancing and other measures to stem it spread. It is for this reason that the Western Regional Imam, Ustaz Ali Hassan Aki took to Facebook live to address Muslims at the sighting of the crescent moon to announce the start of this year’s Ramadan fast.

He cautioned against acts that will go contrary to the President’s directives and rather advised that all precautionary measures such as the regular washing of hands with soap under running water and the use of sanitisers be practiced. Ustaz Ali also said a prayer for the nation.

He also called on Muslims not to forget to share what they have with the needy in society especially during the Ramadan period.
