The Western Region Security Council, (REGSEC) has in a joint operation with the security services at European Town and the Albert Bosomtwe-Sam Fishing Harbour in Sekondi arrested two hundred and 13 persons suspected to be criminals.

There is uneasy calm in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolitan area and its environs following the kidnapping of the three Takoradi girls, the murder of an educationist and some robbery incidents.

This has brought in its wake undue pressure on the security services to ensure the protection of life and property.

The Regional Security Council under Operation Calm Life in the early hours of this morning embarked on a swoop at the Albert Bosomtwe-Sam fishing harbour and European town, both suburbs of Sekondi.

In all 213 suspected criminals comprising 194 males and 19 females were rounded up.Among the items retrieved are quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, toffees and alcohol suspected to have been laced with drugs, quantities of pills suspected to be tramadol, eight TV sets, five laptops, two decoders, some gaming equipment, quantities of condoms and a cash of 23 thousand, 997 Ghana cedis.

Deputy Western Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Edmond Bosompem briefed the media on the operation.
