The Catholic Bishop of Wa, Most Reverend Richard Kuuia Baawobr has urged on the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S. K. Bagbin, to continue to stand up against the homosexual agenda the LGBTQ+ community wants to push in Ghana.

Bishop Baawobr made the remark in a homely at a thanksgiving mass at Sombo in the Nadowli-Kaleo District to commemorate the election of Alban Bagbin as the 7th Speaker of Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana.

He said: “Having followed some of the Parliamentary debates and interacted with Rt. Honourable Bagbin at different locations, we know him for his simplicity and his straight forwardness. And that he does not hesitate to call a spade a spade. He [Bagbin] will remind all that fair play demands that we recognise that what is good for the goose is good also for the gander.”

The Bishop congratulated Mr Bagbin for “the very strong reminder” to the Australian High Commissioner and to others that normal marriage in the Ghanaian customary situation is between a man and a woman and not what is promoted by the LGBTQ+.

“We are very grateful for this courageous position that you have taken in spite of the odds sometimes,” Most Reverend Baawobr emphasised.

The Bishop stressed the need for peace and justice across board and charged the Speaker of Parliament to do a balancing act in respect of responding to the numerous needs of the people so that he will avoid the trap of robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Bishop Baawobr indicated, “Our needs are many and we can put pressure on you to come to our aid, but, you have the responsibility to make the discernment and that is why we want to pray that God will fill you with His Holy Spirit so that you do not rob Peter to pay Paul.”

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Bagbin was very thankful to his people for the opportunity offered him to serve, saying “My house, the land of my birth is here in Sombo, Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region. It is from here that the Lord called me to devote my life in service to my people. I responded to that call and for almost three decades and still counting, I have being a servant of my people”.

“The Lord has expanded the remit of my service to mankind to include the entire country and for that I am extremely grateful. This is the reason why I deemed it fit and proper to come home to give thanks and praises to my creator and my people, on whose vote of confidence and trust I rode to be where I am today,” Mr. Bagbin averred.
