The Wa-Nadowli-Lawra-Hamile highway is to be opened to traffic today, September 1, 2021.

Though the re-opening is temporary, drivers and other road users say the re-opening will not only reduce the traveling time, but also the high additional cost incurred.

Our Upper West Regional Correspondent, Sualah Abdul-Wahab, has visited the Yiziri, a portion of the highway which was washed away by torrential rains.

He said the Minister has assured the people that the road would be opened after two weeks of closure.

The drivers whom GBC News spoke to expressed delight at the re-opening of the road.

They however appealed to the government to double up efforts at fixing the road well enough to avoid the situation from recurring.

Meanwhile, the drivers who load from Wa to Hamile and other destinations have denied allegations of fare increase.

Also, the Contractor has given the assurance that the road would be opened to traffic but appealed to road users to exercise maximum caution, especially at where the road arrows, due to the effects of torrential rains.

The Northern part of the Western Corridor which was cut off from Wa by flood following a downpour some two weeks ago is said to need heavy investment to bring it back to normal.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, is quoted to have said that, when he visited the scene then, to inspect the areas and offer immediate support.
