Interior Ministry reviews curfew on Walewale

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has upon the advice of the North East Regional Security Council, has announced a revision of the curfew hours for Walewale and its surrounding communities due to ongoing security concerns.

In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior said the new curfew, running from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., will take effect from Thursday, February 27, 2025.

The decision follows recommendations from the North East Regional Security Council.

Authorities have also imposed a total ban on the possession and use of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons in the affected areas. Security forces have warned that individuals found in violation of the directive will face arrest and prosecution.

The government has urged Chiefs, Elders, and community leaders to encourage peaceful resolutions to any disputes. It reassured residents of its commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
