The people of Ladɔwayo, a community close to Odumse in the Greater Accra Region, have heaved a sigh of relief as a charitable organization, the Love Nest Foundation, has constructed a mechanized borehole at the cost of GHC 25,000 for the Community. The Community which has been in dire need of potable water for so many years now has access to potable water for drinking, cooking, and washing.
At the sod cutting for the commissioning of the borehole, the people, from far and near, converged on the site of the project with their yellow gallons, popularly referred to as Kufuor Gallon, to draw water from the borehole as they have always had to walk miles to fetch from a stream in the Community or buy from vendors on tricycles at a high cost, which many generally could not afford. The majority of the people in the Community therefore resorted to using the greenish water from the stream to wash their clothes, cook, wash dishes; and above all, drink.
Residents in the Community say they always suffered stomach aches to drink the stream but had no choice as they could not afford to buy water from the tricycle vendors. It was for this reason that the Love Nest Foundation came to the aid of the Community. Ladɔwayo, literally meaning Small Fire Stream, has only one stream which is several kilometers away from the main township, as the main source of water for both humans and livestock. The main road leading to the town and its adjoining routes are all in a deplorable state. The Community also does not have a school; therefore, the children in the area have to walk several miles to attend school at Odumse. The oldest person in the town who serves as an Opinion Leader, Fred Sanyorgmor Ackam said the Community is grateful to the Love Nest Foundation for the gesture.
“It is disheartening to hear news of water destroying homes and properties in some parts of the country, whiles elsewhere, the people do not have access to drinking water”.
Head Pastor of the Christ Liberation Centre of the Assemblies of God Church at Ladɔwayo, Reverend Eddie Daniels, who put across the plea for the construction of the borehole said the Community members would be made to pay little fees to maintain the borehole to prolong its lifespan.
The Founder of the Love Nest Foundation, Mrs. Nana Yaa Owusuaa Kyei said the Foundation “was touched with the plea when it made two donations to the Community during the New Year”.
Residents, especially children, who were made to walk miles to fetch water from the only stream in the Community expressed gratitude to the Foundation for the gesture; saying they can now “concentrate on their schooling”, as they do not have to walk miles in search of water.
