Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a major burst on its 42-inch transmission pipeline, causing widespread water supply disruptions across eastern Accra. The incident occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026.
The fault has affected residents and businesses in several communities, including Tema Metropolis, Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, parts of East Legon, Nungua, and Teshie.
GWL engineers and technical teams mobilized immediately and are working around the clock to repair the damaged line. Officials said the size and complexity of the transmission main make the restoration process delicate, requiring careful handling to ensure safety, durability, and efficiency.
The utility company assured customers that every effort is being made to restore water supply as quickly as possible. Essential service providers, including schools and hospitals, have been advised to contact GWL directly for assistance during the outage.
GWL expressed regret for the disruption and thanked customers for their patience and understanding. Further updates will be provided as repairs progress.
