The Dislocated Workers Group of Anglogold Ashanti Ghana Limited have refuted allegations that their allowances have been settled.

According to the group, Anglogold still owes them special compensations since 2013 when they were laid off.

Speaking at a News Conference in Accra, the spokesperson for the group Alex Frimpong bemoaned the silence of the Trades Union Congress TUC on the matter.

The workers who were laid off in 2013 as a result of a retrenchment exercise, say the lay off was illegal.

This is because the reason given for the retrenchment exercise, which was to undertake maintenance works in the Obuasi mine does not fall under the criteria for declaring workers redundant.

Flanked by the leadership of the group who were clad in red, spokesperson for the workers Alex Frimpong expressed displeasure at the impression being created that their special compensations have been paid.

” they (Anglogold Ashanti) said they had fully settled us…..they don’t owe us , whivh is not true…….from the agreement, those who served from 1-9 years were entitled to receive $60,000…10-19 years will reveive $100,000 while 20years and above are to reveive $125,000″.

Mr. Frimpong was not happy at the silence of the TUC on the matter. He called on the aggrieved workers, numbering more than 400 to remain calm as they engage the authorities to resolve the matter.
