The Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated that the government has within the past four years executed 1,488 projects to transform the socio-economic lives of the people in the Upper East Region.

Out of the total number of projects executed, he said, 688 of them in the region had been completed.

He said the social intervention programmes such as the Free Senior High School, One-Village-One-Dam, One-District-One Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs, restoration of the teacher and nurse trainee allowances, road projects and the Pwalugu Multipurpose dam in the Upper East Region had to a large extent improved the lives of the people in Northern Ghana and the country as a whole, under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Dr. Bawumia stated these when he called on the Paramount Chief of the Sirigu Traditional Area in the Kassena Nankana West District, Naba Atogumdeya Roland Akwara III, to begin his three-day tour of the Upper East Region on Tuesday November 10, 2020.

He also addressed a durbar at Mirigu in the same constituency.

He explained that the execution of the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road and the Pwalugu Multipurpose dam, the largest investment in Northern Ghana since independence, was a pointer to the fact that the government had shown much commitment towards the development of the North.

“The North has been left behind for a very long time, hence the Akufo-Addo-led government was launching transformational policies to lift up the North and the country out of poverty,” Dr. Bawumia stressed.

The Vice-President stated that the social interventions showed that the NPP had shown more commitment towards the transformation of the people’s lives.

He therefore entreated the people of Sirigu and the Upper East Region to retain the NPP in power and to vote the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Mr. Robert Aloo, to partner President Nana Akufo-Addo to bring more development to the area.

Welcoming the Vice-President to his palace earlier, Naba Akwara stressed the need for the government to help complete the Bolgatanga-Nyariga-Sirigu road and a Community Library project started some years ago but which is currently at the roofing level.

He appealed to the government to help rehabilitate the drainage system in the Sirigu Market to avoid flooding of the market during the rainy season.

He called on the government to find ways of carving out another constituency from Chiana-Paga and a new district to accelerate development in the area.

The chief commended the government for rolling out pro-poor policies including the Free Senior High School programme which had improved the lives of the people in the community.
