Another victim accused of being a witch and beaten mercilessly by a mob has called on Government to as a matter of urgency, deal with this outmoded custom to save other women of being lynched.

Recently a 90-year-old woman, AkuaDenteh suffered the same fate but unfortunately, she lost her life in the process.

This unfortunate incident has claimed the lives of many, but there seem to be no action to curb the menace and also punish offenders.

Over the weekend, 58-year-old Meiri Ibrahim and three other women were subjected to severe beating by some young men at Sumpini, a community in the West Gonja District of the Savannah Region, on allegation of being witches.

They inflicted deep cutlass wounds on Meri’s head, arms and legs and had her two fingers severed.

Madam Meiri who is a mother of three lost her left eye as a result of the attack. Another victim is reported to be in bad condition at the hospital. Madam Meiri recounted her ordeal to an Accra based Radio Station.

Meiri Ibrahim is a middle-aged woman who was nearly lynched at the weekend on accusation of being a witch.

Meanwhile the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison says it is time to name and shame offenders of these barbaric acts.

She said perpetrators will be prosecuted once investigations are conducted to fish them out.

The Ministry will renovate shelters that house vulnerable groups especially women accused of witchcraft, saying these acts are prevalent up North and would require conscious effort at integrating these women into society.
