Queiroz  Galvão, the Brazilian company working on the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road in the Upper East Region has started fixing damaged portion of the Kubore Bridge in the Bawku West District.

The bridge was damaged following the spillage of the Bagre dam and torrential rains recorded in the region.

Deputy Director-General of NADMO in-Charge of Operations, Alhaji Abu Ramadan and the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Frank Fuseini  Adongo, have visited the site to assess progress of work.

Recent heavy rains in the Upper East region coupled with the spillage of the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso seriously impacted vehicular movement on the main Bolgatanga-Bawku road. The White Volta Bridge was not spared by the floodwaters as it was completely submerged and left travelers stranded.

Currently, travellers have to rely on the services of canoe operators to get to the other side of the bridge. Stranded drivers were frustrated over the delay in making the road motorable.

The Deputy Director-General of NADMO In-Charge of Operations, Alhaji Abu Ramadan, said their main priority now is to save lives and property.

The Upper East Regional NADMO Director, Jerry Asamani, expressed shock at the level of destruction caused by the floods.

A driver, Yussif Mohammed in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, appealed for an urgent aid from government. The flooding destroyed a number of houses and major roads as well as several hectares of farmland, and loss of five lives.
