World Mental Health Day: Proactive Ghana salutes mental health professionals

As Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark this year’s World Mental Health Day on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Proactive Ghana, a Non Governmental Organization is urging all Ghanaians to use the opportunity to raise awareness on the silent impact of mental health on people.

The Group says it is time “we all embrace the reality of the impact of mental health on us as individuals and as a society”. 

In a statement issued and signed by the Executive Director Lawyer Theophilus Dzimega, mentioned that “Proactive Ghana is making efforts to get everyone to access the mental health care we need.”

He said they are working with individuals and partners to provide education, psychological support, and other forms of assistance in addressing the mental health needs of people in Ghanaian society.

Mr Dzimega used the occasion to express his profound gratitude to all those who provide invaluable services in support of mental health and wellbeing in Ghana. 

He particularly acknowledged the work of all mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, psychoanalysts, psychiatric Nurses, social workers and professional counsellors. 

Proactive Ghana is also grateful to the Parliament of Ghana for repealing the law on suicide.

Finally,  “we thank the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, and all other affiliated institutions, both public and private also deserve our commendation and appreciation. Thank you all for hard work in ensuring mental health and wellbeing of our people”.

Proactive Ghana is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that is working to empower people, women, children, and youth to create awareness about the silent impact of mental health in Ghana and beyond.
