Some Residents of Lambusie District of the Upper West Region have hit the streets of  Lambusie to protest against what they described as intentional error of Global Position System (GPS), by the National Digital Property Addressing System to capture 13 Electoral Areas of the District to Nandom Municipal.

The Residents alleged that the error is being manipulated by some individuals with a hidden agenda.

Convener of the protest, Sylvester Boyuo said after the error was detected by some NABCO Officials who were assigned to generate numbers for the structures in the District, petitions were sent to the President and Minister for Local Government and Rural Development by the DCE of the Area and Lambusie Traditional Council but they have not received any response.

They have given the government up to December 31st, 2021 to get their concerns addressed.

The Lambusie District was created in 2007 by Legislative Instrument (LI) 1849 and by Constitutional Instrument (CI)119 consisting of 25 Electoral Areas. However 12 Electoral Areas have been captured with the Municipal Code of Nandom instead of Lambusie by the National Digital Addressing System.

The Electoral Areas include Busiyga, Kempa, Dahile, Sentu, Hamile West, Muoteng, Nabaala, Buu, Piina, Buli, Cheboggo and Tapum/Chetu.

Residents have since banned officials from putting the Global Position System (GPS) address on their structures until the issues raised are resolved.

The protests saw residents march through the principal streets of the Lambusie District capital, Lambussie with placards and red bands to register their displeasure on issues affecting the District. The inscriptions on the placards include, “Stop encroachment on our land”, “We will strike again after December 31”, and “the Sissala’s deserve better”.

The Convener, Mr Boyuo also alleged the creation of a supposed Nandom North District comprising the already captured 12 Electoral Areas with its capital at Kokoligu.

Mr. Boyuo however commended the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Akuffo Dampare and his Officers for performing their duties with professionalism.
