The youth have been asked to take advantage of the numerous job opportunities in the construction sector.

This will help build their skills and create their own businesses to address unemployment in the country.

The Western Regional Coordinator of Global Communities, an NGO, Abdul Salam Mohammed made this known at the Yiedie Awareness Creation and Registration Fair in Takoradi to enrol disadvantaged youth on the Yiedie project.

The Awareness and registration Fair was designed to promote and communicate the project to the public and screen youth between the ages of 17 and 24 who are unemployed or currently out of school and interested in improving their lives.

The fair is also an opportunity for the youth to interact with successful people within the construction sector.

The Youth Inclusive Entrepreneurial Development Initiative for Employment, YIEDIE, is to create economic opportunities in Ghana.

As part of the programme, key players in the construction industry mentored and educated the participants about the job prospects and opportunities in the construction industry.

The Yiedie project which will end by 2020 is being implemented by Global Communities, an International NGO and sponsored by Master Card foundation.

The Western Regional Coordinator of Global Communities, Abdul Salam Mohammed, was optimistic that by the end of the project the unemployment situation in the country would have reduced drastically.

Yiedie is a five year project designed to improve the capacity of the youth and service providers across the construction value chain through an integrated youth led market system.
