Zijin Golden Ridge Limited has held a media soiree at New Abirem in the Eastern Region, bringing together journalists from various outlets to foster stronger relations and provide updates on the company’s operations.
The event offered the media an opportunity to engage directly with the management of the mining firm, which took over operations from Newmont Ghana in April 2025.
Addressing the gathering, the General Manager of Zijin Golden Ridge Limited, Agyeman Okyere, outlined the company’s long-term vision for its mining operations and neighbouring communities. He noted that since assuming control of the mine from Newmont, Zijin Golden Ridge has focused on stabilizing its operations, improving production efficiency, and maintaining responsible mining standards.
Mr. Okyere announced that the company is poised to extend its operational lifespan by an additional 20 years, following significant investments in exploration, technology, and environmental management. “Our goal is to ensure sustainable mining that does not only benefit the company but also brings long-term value to our host communities,” he said.
As part of the soiree the media personnel were taken on an extensive tour of the mining site, including the operational pit, processing facilities, and waste management area. The tour was aimed at giving the journalists first-hand insight into the company’s responsible mining practices and ongoing efforts to protect the environment.
Journalists observed safety procedures, environmental controls, and rehabilitation activities designed to minimize the ecological impact of mining.
The General Manager emphasized that community development remains a top priority for the company. According to him, Zijin is committed to improving livelihoods in its catchment areas through initiatives in education, health, infrastructure, and skills training. He added that the company will continue to collaborate with traditional authorities, local government, and civil society organisations to implement programmes that address community needs.
Mr. Okyere further encouraged the media to maintain a constructive partnership with the company by providing accurate and balanced information to the public. He acknowledged the critical role journalists play in promoting transparency and facilitating dialogue between the mining firm and its stakeholders.
The media soiree also featured interactive sessions where journalists raised questions on environmental issues, corporate social responsibility, and the company’s future expansion plans. Some media personnel were acknowledged for their efforts in covering the company’s activities. The participants expressed appreciation to Zijin Golden Ridge Limited for creating a platform that deepens engagement and promotes openness in the mining sector.

The $1 billion transaction aligns with Zijin’s strategy to expand its global gold footprint.
