Zoomlion disinfects markets in Upper West region

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has organised a second phase of disinfection markets in the Upper West Region.

The exercise which is a government’s initiative to help stem the spread of COVID-19 pandemic through disinfection of surfaces was done simultaneously across the eleven districts and municipalities in Upper West.

The Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih addressed the media at the forecourt of the RCC before the spraying gang members moved to the main lorry station in Wa for the exercise to begin.

GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo in this write-up points out that in the Upper West region, 109 markets were disinfected including all public places of convenience around the markets.

300 sprayers as well as supervisors and monitors were deployed to do the work.

The Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih observed that the disinfection exercise has become a quarterly affair adding that government will do all within its power to ensure that the citizenry are safe from COVID-19 and gave some statistics pertaining to the disease in the Region.

The Regional Minister said:  “…COVID-19 is real, government will not rest on its oars, we will do all we can to ensure that the citizenry are safe from this menace. In the Upper West Region as of now, we have 75 cases, out of the 75, 73 have recovered we have one active case in the Region and one death we are not out of the woods yet we are therefore appealing to all and sundry to observe all the safety protocols as prescribed to as by health officials.”

“I want to say that some people have become complacent, they have become used to the existence of COVID-19 to the extent that people have become complacent, they think that we are out of the woods, we are not. So let all of us continue to preach to our people to adhere to the safety protocols,” Dr Bin Salih re-emphasised.

The Upper West Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Emmanuel Volsuuri stated that the company deployed improved technology for the second phase.

He stated: “This time round there is improvement in technology, we have got the atomizers that can spray the chemicals to higher height, as you could observed they were able to spray as high as five to six storey building. In fact, it can throw the chemical to the height of 50 metres so that we are able to get almost every surface of high rise buildings within the markets.”

Fourteen (14) markets were disinfected in the Wa Municipality whilst 95 others were disinfected in the 10 other districts and municipalities of the Region.
