Thirteen people have died in a fatal road crash on the Sege-Tema Highway in the Greater Accra Region, involving a Ford Transit and a Toyota Hiace.
The accident occurred on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as the two vehicles were travelling along the Sege Highway towards Ada.
According to Assistant Divisional Officer at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Alex King Nartey, personnel from the Sege Fire Station responded to call to the crash site after it was reported.
A total of 18 people were involved in the accident. Thirteen of them died from injuries sustained in the crash, while the remaining five were critically injured.
The five survivors were taken to the Sege Polyclinic, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Details about what caused the two vehicles to crash, have not yet been established.
The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety in Ghana, particularly the frequency of fatal crashes on major highways.
Authorities and road safety stakeholders continue to urge motorists to exercise caution, adhere to prescribed speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking and maintain safe distances from other vehicles.
Motorists are also encouraged to avoid driving when fatigued or distracted and to remain particularly vigilant when travelling on busy highways.
Further details on the crash, including the identities of the deceased and the findings of any investigations, are expected as authorities continue to assess the incident.
