A GH¢149 million cocoa processing factory has been inaugurated in Accra to convert cocoa beans into finished and semi-finished products for the local and export markets.

Afrotropic Processing Company Limited ACPL, a Free Zones company and part of the ‘One district, One factory initiative’, is expected to process 15,000 tonnes of raw cocoa beans annually into high quality products such as chocolate, cocoa powder, cocoa liquor and cocoa butter.

The factory is also part of the government’s agenda to add value to about half of the raw cocoa beans produced in the country before export.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, who inaugurated the new factory Monday, described it as another milestone in the cocoa sector, adding that it would boost cocoa production in the country.
