The 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, (VGMA) was nearly marred with a clash between fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy inside the auditorium on Sunday, May 19, 2010.

The incident happened when one of the  musician, Stonebwoy was called on stage to receive the ‘Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year’.

It was not clear what triggered the anger, when Stonebwoy pull out a gun before walking off stage.

According to reports, Shatta Wale unexpectedly walked towards the stage with his fans to congratulate Stonebwoy for the award.

But the fans misconstrued Shatta Wale’s move as a protest to the award for  Stonebwoy.

Stonebwoy then pulled out a gun on stage. That forced another delay but order was restored after nearly 30 minutes and the show continued with many of the patrons staying till the end, although some left due to the incident.

The show was temporarily halted amidst the pandemonium in the Dome and some of the patrons started leaving the auditorium.

In the immediate aftermath, Stonebwoy came back on stage to denounce Shatta Wale alleging that he wanted blood and death in Ghana.

Stonebwoy, however, apologized when he came back on stage later to accept the award for ‘Songwriter of the Year.’

“I am really sorry for the incident that happened earlier on and I only had to react out of natural instincts because we all know how premeditative some people can be. We’ve seen on social media the treats and everything so we couldn’t come in unprepared because anything could have happened as you guys saw. I come in peace and I go in peace and I apologize to the whole masses of Ghana that the Awards is going to continue. Thank you very much for supporting my music, for supporting everybody else’s music. By their deeds we have all seen [them].”

Shatta Wale took to his twitter account to poke fun at Stonebwoy for pulling out a gun on stage.

Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale are known rivals in the Ghanaian music space with each of them drawing unique audiences.

Unlike previous editions where the focus was on who wins the coveted Artiste of the Year category, this year’s being the 20th has shifted the argument to who among the ten shortlisted acts will be crowned Artiste of the Decade.
