Black Maidens Captain Abdullai Mukarama has urged her team mates to prove why they are part of the lucky 21 players to make the cut for the Maidens squad in Uruguay.
“I always tell them that there 1000’s of players in Ghana but we are the lucky 21 to represent Ghana that is a very big load for us to prove to everybody that this is why they brought you here”.
The Maidens will be making a third consecutive appearance at the Quarter finals at the U-17 Women’s World cup.
In the previous two editions, their stay in the tournament was cut short by Italy and Korea DPR in Costa Rica and Jordan respectively.
Another semifinals berth awaits the team if only they can go past Mexico and grab two of the remaining spots available in the competition.
This is a historic first time meeting between Ghana and Mexico in this championship. For the El Tri of Mexico progressing to the next stage is equal to opening a new chapter for the U-17 team and their Coach Monica Vergara.
However, for the Black Maidens it will be the repetition of Azerbaijan 2012. Knowing how high the stakes are Captain Muka says “the team and myself are very prepared for the match, going into the quarter finals, that is a very big task because we want to go beyond that and playing against Mexico won’t be easy, we have to all out heart out we need the win against Mexico.
