The Builsa District Police Commander, Superintendent Samuel Ntosoh, has urged Senior High School, (SHS) students to see discipline as a tool for academic excellence. He said discipline led to social freedom and empowered people to be focused and, therefore, should be nurtured for the achievement of future goals.

Supt. Ntosoh said this during the commissioning of the Sendema Senior High School Cadet Corps at the weekend in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region.

He said the students could only make progress if they disciplined themselves through nurturing self-esteem and creating grounds for self- development. Supt. Ntosoh said discipline went with self-denial, comportment and respect for other people.

“Indeed focusing on developing such habits could make one self- disciplined to succeed in life. Discipline is not about what one wears or eats, but it is about controlling the ego in one’s self”.

Supt Ntosoh explained that the rationale for establishing the School Cadet Corps was to help maintain law and order to ensure academic excellence and not to exhibit immorality, disrespect for authority and hiding under the cadet uniform to commit crime.

He said joining the cadet corps did not increase one’s chances of being recruited into the security services such as the Military, Police, Immigration, Customs, Fire and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) but that better academic qualifications were paramount.

He, therefore, urged them to focus on their studies in order to pass with good grades to increase their chances of recruitment.

Supt. Ntosoh charged parents and the School’s authorities to inculcate discipline into the students during their training to enable them to easily take the mantle of replacing the country’s workforce after school.

The Senior House Master for Academic Affairs, Godfred Abolik who spoke on behalf of the Headmaster, Robert Yeli-Oni, charged the students to see themselves as agents of change and live lives worthy of trust and emulation for the younger ones.
