The Committee set up by government to investigate the killing of seven persons by the Police at Manso Nkwanta, in the Ashanti Region has cleared the seven of any wrong doing.

According to the report of the Committee, chaired by High Court Judge Justice Obeng Diawuo, there were no facts before the Committee to establish that the deceased persons were armed robbers who engaged in exchange of fire with the Police.

A statement issued by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said Government has therefore interdicted the twenty-one police personnel involved in the incident and will be subjected to formal police criminal investigation.

It said in the interim, government in consultation with the families and community leaders will provide support for dependents of the deceased persons and assured the public that due process will be followed in the pursuit of justice.

Government is therefore calling for continued calm and patience, pending a conclusive determination of the matter.
