The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has told Parliament that, by the end 2018, a total of Seventy Nine, (79) projects would have been approved under One-District-One-Factory, (1D1F) and these projects are currently at various stages of implementation.

According to him, some of these 79 projects have commenced operations, others are under construction whilst others have received approval from the participating financial Institutions and are ready to commence implementation.

At the Regional level, the Minister disclosed that, 13 Districts have been identified for the project in the Ashanti Region. Greater Accra 22, Brong Ahafo 13, Cenral Region 8, Eastern Region 8 and Western Region 14 Factories.  The rest are Volta Region 1, Northern Region 6, Upper West Region 1 and Upper East 0 Factory.

“22 flagship large scale projects are to be financial under the MOTI-China National Builders Material (CNBM) USD400 Million Facility,” he mentioned.

The Sector Minister made these known when he appeared before Parliament to answer question asked by MP for Bole/Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana as to where the factories to be established in 2018 under the Government’s flagship programme 1D1F would be located.

The One-District-One-Factory initiative aims at establishing at least one factory in each district across the Country.

The initiative is Private Sector led whilst the government plays a facilitating role including providing technical assistance for the planning and implementation of projects, as well as facilitating access to credit and infrastructure support.

The government has also approved a package for incentives for 1D1F Companies. The enterprises being established under the initiatives are therefore owned and managed by private investor/entrepreneurs who determine the location of their projects.

In selected cases, Government could act as an equity partner. It is important to indicate that both new and existing factories that seek to expand their operations qualify to be part of the 1D1F programme.
