8 killed in road accident on Friday

Eight persons have been killed in a road accident in the Ashanti region with about 15 others sustaining various degree of injuries some in critical condition.

All the dead were on board a fully loaded-23 seater Sprinter Ben bus with registration number GT 6249-17 which rammed into a moving articulated truck at Boankra near Ejisu in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti region.

According to an official at the Ashanti regional office of the National Road Safety Commission, Simbiat Wiredu, the accident occurred at about 5 am Friday when driver of the bunz bus allegedly attempted to overtake vehicles ahead of it.

The bus, which was moving from Kumasi towards the Accra direction, was unsuccessful in the overtaking venture and ran into the articulated truck, with registration number ER 5382 X from the opposite direction killing three of the occupants on the spot.

Five others were pronounced dead on arrival at the Ejisu Government Hospital. Meanwhile, those injured persons whose condition have been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for emergency medical care.
