The Member of Parliament (MP), for Ablekuma South Constituency, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuje has urged members and delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to desist from using abusive words, among others in the lead up to the party’s parliamentary primaries in August.

He said to capture power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2020, there must be a united front and also the need for a peaceful coexistence among members.

“As we prepare ourselves for this primaries let’s avoid the use of bad language and ensure our internal elections remain peaceful as it has always been”. he emphasized.

He said this when he submitted his nomination forms at the constituency office in Accra to seek re-election.

Dr. Vanderpuje was  the Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly in former president Mahama’s administration.

He also earned the position of the president for the global Alliance of mayors and leaders of Africa and African descent in 2014 due to his outstanding contributions and initiatives as the mayor.

Dr. Vanderpuje’s outstanding contribution towards improvement of sanitation and other contributions he has made towards the development of the area especially on sanitation  among others earned him the best mayor in Accra in his tenure.

The NDC Chairman for the Ablekuma south constituency, Geoffrey Attakli Banini for his part  thanked all members of the party for their support and continuous solidarity for  the aspirants but however, appealed to the delegates to desist from insulting each other as any ‘language used against any candidate could be used against us the party in the 2020 elections’.

He noted “If you are saying anything negative about your brother ask yourself if what you are saying is true because whatever you say will be used by your opponent against you when we go for the 2020 polls. Don’t attack anybody, let’s do it beautifully for peace to prevail”.

He also used the occasion to thank scores of people who had thronged the constituency of office to support the party.

The filling of nomination forms was slated for July 18 and 19.

Vetting of aspirants is expected to take place after nominations followed by the elections on August 24, 2019.
