Parts of Accra have been left without electricity since last night after unannounced power outages.

Residents in areas including Lapaz, Abeka, Sowutum, Kasoa, Tema, Teshie, Nungua, La, Kwashieman, Odorkor, Darkuman, Awoshie, Latebiokorshie and Korle-bu, took to social media to express their frustration as the outage was accompanied by extremely low currents.

It comes a little over a week after the new distributor, Power Distribution Services (PDS) took over operations of the Electricity Company of Ghana.

PDS is expected to improve access to electricity while cutting down on waste in the system to block all leakages that drain the finances of ECG.

A statement from PDS on the outage said power to its Mallam Bulk Supply Point and Graphic Road had been curtailed due to some technical challenges.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has apologised to the public for the outage in some parts of the country.
According to GRIDCo, the outage happened Tuesday when some transmission lines in the west tripped together with all generating units at Aboadze, Bui, Asogli, Kpone, and the Kpong generating stations.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of GRIDCo, Albert Kwesi Quainoo said all transmission lines have been restored, however, it took some time for some thermal generating units to restart resulting in the long outage.
The statement said all bulk supply points have been restored Wednesday morning. GRIDCo assures the public that they will continue to work with all stakeholders to provide adequate supply to customers.
